Competition# L-30 The Vocational and Rehabilitation Research Institute is a recognized leader in Alberta in research and services to persons with disabilities. Our publicly accessible Dr. Randy J. Tighe Resource Centre is a leading source for the latest information and resources on developmental disabilities to the disability community at large. We are currently looking for an energetic Librarian to join our fun and productive Research Department. Do you know what a library of the 21st Century will look like? In this leadership position, you will be responsible for: charting the direction of the library in accordance with the department’s vision to provide high quality research and information maintaining and expanding a diverse collection of resources including interactive media, educational tools and plain language information updating the library’s web-site and on-line database responding to information requests, and distributing materials and audio-visual resources across the province recruiting, training and supervising library staff monitoring the library’s budget identifying and implementing technological solutions for effective management of the library’s information storage and distribution systems icreating a welcoming and supportive environment for customers of all abilities
As a member of a department known for its excellence and high standards, you will have the opportunity to: support research activities that influence policy, service-delivery and advocacy for persons with disabilities in Alberta contribute to the department’s research agenda development, strategic planning, publishing and peer-review activities participate in agency-wide development, social and public-relations activities
As the successful candidate, you: have professional training and experience in library, information or resource centre management, preferably, a Master’s Degree in Library Sciences and 3 years’ of related experience, or a combination of related education and experience demonstrate excellent written, interpersonal and customer service skills value the inclusion of persons with disabilities in society and have a genuine respect for diversity are proficient in using and providing technical assistance for computers, audio-visual resources and bibliographic systems and software are highly organized and can work efficiently and independently with little supervision in a high performance environment are familiar with the issues, literature and resources pertinent to the disability field If this sounds like the job for you, please send your cover letter and résumé to
