The VRRI is a non-profit, service and research agency committed to innovative services and research that assist persons with disabilities to live as contributing and valued members of the community. 

The process for applying for a Supportive Roommate position is as follows:

Submit resume and cover letter, the cover letter should include all information relevant to the accommodation you wish to provide. Details to include are location, proximity to public transit, recreation and leisure facilities in the community, ages of people living in the home, wheelchair accessibility, and details of the accommodation (i.e., separate living area, bedroom in the home, etc.).

Once an applicant has been short listed, we will conduct an in-home interview. Following a successful initial interview, opportunities will be arranged for the client and potential roommate to meet and begin the process of getting to know one another. Other support team members are involved in the process at this stage.

Each Supportive Roommate situation is as unique as the individuals involved. Our goal is to facilitate a successful living arrangement that will meet the needs of our clients and their roommates.

Qualifications: 

Experience supporting individuals with disabilities and or brain injury is preferred.  A diploma or degree in Rehabilitation / Disability Studies or a related field would be a definite asset. 

The successful candidate(s) will be subject to a police security clearance in compliance with the Protection for Persons in Care Act.  Standard first aid and CPR are required within the first 3 months of employment.
