Young Lives Bright Futures
Description

The goal of the project is to generate qualitative and quantitative information for families of young adults with developmental disabilities, and particularly, but not exclusively, those with Autism Specturm Disorder, to assist them in advocating for the planning and development of transitional supports and services and opportunities following transition from Family Supports for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) to the Persons with Developmental Disabilities Program (PDD).

This goal will be accomplished by:

·       Conducting various trend analyses to: (i) create 5 year population projections and (ii) determine uptake trends for persons with developmental disabilities, and in particular, those with ASD, in the FSCD and the PDD systems. The scope of the analysis will depend on the depth and extent of data made available to us from FSCD and PDD.·       Reviewing the academic literature to: (i) identify issues/concerns and needs of families of children with developmental disabilities as they approach adulthood, and (ii) identify best practices in transitional supports for this population.

·       Consulting families and young adults with developmental disabilities through focus group sessions to understand their perspectives, experiences, and quality of life, as well as what they think is needed at a policy and systems level for successful transition and inclusion.

·       Synthesizing the findings into a written report, customized to ASEA’s needs, with information that ASEA can use to accomplish their overall goal of enhancing services and supports.
