It’s My History, Too!
Description It’s My History, Too! is a multiphase, 4-year project to produce an innovative document of the history of individuals with developmental disabilities in Alberta through the creation of a public exhibit. Launched in the Spring of 2006, the objective of the project is to reveal how the social and cultural functions of the past (i.e., disability theory and practice and political structures and policy) constructed the history of Albertans with developmental disabilities in the areas of institutionalization, education, and community living from 1905 to the present, and in part, shaped their identities and history today. Told from the perspective of Albertans with developmental disabilities, the exhibit will enhance public awareness and understanding of this unique history.
