The VRRI Medication Administration Course is designed to educate disability services employees in the knowledge, skills, attitude, and judgment required to safely administer medications and treatments.

The objectives of this course are:

  • identifying and explaining the four steps of the medication process
  • understanding how communication is an important part of medication administration
  • identifying the ‘7 RIGHTS’ of medication administration
  • understanding the 3-check system of medication
  • understanding medication errors and incidents and the differences between them
  • understanding universal precautions and infection control
  • understanding how drugs work
  • understanding what to do in medication emergencies
  • understanding the importance of safe practices for you and your client
  • defining PRN and the four judgments of PRN medication administration

Procedures:

  • You are required to register at least 4 weeks prior to the course date
  • Four weeks prior to the course date, you will receive instructions for course material pick up
  • A pre-test must be completed and returned to the VRRI by the date specified for each course. Late pre-tests will not be accepted (80% pass rate is required).

How long is the course?

  • The full course is 12 hours and may be taken over 2 days or 1 day plus 2 evening sessions.
  • The refresher program is 8 hours in duration.

How long will my certificate be valid?

The Medication Administration Course certification is valid for 3 years.

Can I take the Medication Administration refresher course instead of the full course?

No.  The Refresher course is designed for people who have a valid certificate. If you have not taken the VRRI Medication Administration course, or if your certificate has expired, you must register for the full course.

April 13 & 15, 2009
April 27 & 28, 2009 or Apri 27 & 29, 2009

What are the course fees?

$120.00 (This fee is non-refundable.)
