Become a Supportive Roommate by welcoming a person with a disability to live in your home or by sharing their home. Positions for Supportive Roommates are often posted on our job opportunities board.
Supportive Roommates: Our Goal
Our goal is to provide a positive and safe living environment for our clients where they can receive the home living, social and emotional supports needed to enhance their quality of life. The recruitment process aims to find the best possible match between our client and potential Supportive Roommates with the hope that this living arrangement will be successful in meeting the needs of both on a long term basis,
Responsibilities
Clients may require support or assistance in areas such as meal preparation, medical appointments, medication administration, financial management, home management, personal care, social skills, emotional support and involvement in leisure activities. The type of supports a Supportive Roommate would be called upon to provide is based on the individual needs of the client.
The VRRI and You
As a Supportive Roommate with The Vocational and Rehabilitation Research Institute you would be an employee and a member of our team. Ongoing support , guidance and training will be provided. Compensation and eligibility for benefits is dependent upon specific job requirements.
Qualifications
We are looking for candidates who are interested in providing high quality service and support to our clients. Experience within the rehabilitative field may be required for some positions; however it may not be necessary for every situation.
Respite Provider
Respite providers support our clients in their home or in the client’s home on a regular short term basis in order to give some time away to the primary caregiver.
