The Independent Living Resource Centre of Calgary (ILRCC) is a consumer controlled, cross disability, community-based, non-profit organization that is committed to promoting and enabling all persons with disabilities to make informed choices about their lives and to achieve their own level of independence. We believe in the right of people to equal opportunity, accessibility and full participation in the community.
We provide, through our core programs and special projects, alternatives that will allow citizens with disabilities to achieve their own level of independence. We are also committed to enhancing public awareness regarding the concerns and contributions of persons with disabilities.

Speak Out 10!
On Friday, May 30th ILRCC and some of our volunteers took part in Speak Out 10's disability pride parade and fair. The event was well attended, and even though participants were pelted by cold rain and even some hail, everybody toughed it out!
ILRCC extended a greeting in front of City Hall, where the parade kicked-off. Volunteers Amy, Iona and Roy made the trek from City Hall to the Alexandra Centre with Fund Development Officer Marcel Anderson. Rose Virgo, our Life Skills program coordinator was set-up at the booth when the parade arrived at the Alexandra Centre where parade participants signed-up to become new members of ILRCC or to receive registration information for our Volunteer, Peer and LEARN programs .
Canada Safeway “We Care” campaign 2008
Canada Safeway’s “We Care” campaign is a unique opportunity for dozens of Alberta’s charitable organizations to engage the public face-to-face, helping raise the organizations’ profiles in the community and significantly adding to operating funds. ILRCC extends a very special “thank you” to Canada Safeway for hosting us at their Dalhousie store during this year’s “We Care” campaign.
Between the beginning of January and the end of March, ILRCC volunteers, board members and staff raised over $15,000.00 with the support of Dalhousie Safeway. On Saturday, March 9th Calgary Alderman Gord Lowe lent his support at one of the campaign’s major weekend events… thanks Gord! And of course, the campaign wouldn’t had done nearly as well as it did without the dedication of ILRCC’s team of volunteers!
The “We Care” campaign wrapped-up with the drawing of two raffle tickets. The first prize, a Nikon SLR digital camera, was won by Mr. Karim J with ticket #224. The second prize, $500.00 in gift certificates for a fine women’s clothing store and a fine men’s clothing, was won by Ms. Shirley M. with ticket #182.
The camera was partially sponsored by Memory Express Computer Products Inc. The gift certificates were partially sponsored by Persona (formerly Crabapple lane) and Mansour’s Fine Men’s Clothing. All three sponsors have stores in Dalhousie Station, located on the NE corner of Crowchild Trail and 53rd Street NW. Persona also has a store in Calgary Place.
ILRCC are grateful for the generous support provided by all three sponsors.
